Application of paragraph 38 of the report of fiftieth meeting of the Board

In accordance with the procedure for the revision of approved methodologies, the Board at its fiftieth meeting approved the following revised A/R CDM methodologies effective 30 October 2009, 24:00 GMT,:

(i) AR-AM0002 “Restoration of degraded lands through afforestation/reforestation” (version 03);
(ii) AR-AM0004 “Reforestation or afforestation of land currently under agricultural use” (version 04);
(iii) AR-AM0005 “Afforestation and reforestation project activities implemented for industrial and/or commercial uses” (version 04);
(iv) AR-AM0006 “Afforestation/Reforestation with trees supported by shrubs on degraded land”(version 03);
(v) AR-AM0010 “Afforestation and reforestation project activities implemented on unmanaged grassland in reserve/protected areas” (version 04).

The Board further agreed that the revisions will not affect the A/R CDM project activities for which the PDD was prepared applying the previous versions of the above-mentioned methodologies (detailed below) as long as those projects after satisfying all the requirements* listed in paragraph 15 of the “Modalities and procedures for afforestation and reforestation project activities under the clean development mechanism in the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol” (decision 5/CMP.1) are submitted for registration within 18 months of the effective date of the revision -- i.e., 30 April 2011:

The previous versions of the above-mentioned methodologies are:

(i) AR-AM0002 “Restoration of degraded lands through afforestation/reforestation” (version 02);
(ii) AR-AM0004 “Reforestation or afforestation of land currently under agricultural use” (version 03);
(iii) AR-AM0005 “Afforestation and reforestation project activities implemented for industrial and/or commercial uses” (version 03);
(iv) AR-AM0006 “Afforestation/Reforestation with trees supported by shrubs on degraded land”(version 02);
(v) AR-AM0010 “Afforestation and reforestation project activities implemented on unmanaged grassland in reserve/protected areas” (version 03).

* Publishing the PDD for comments in accordance with paragraph 15(c), for example, must occur before 16 March 2011 (i.e. more than 45 days before 18 months have passed since the effective date of the revision -- i.e., 30 April 2011).
